What Lyophilization Does — and Why It Matters

Peptides in solution are fragile. Hydrolysis, oxidation and aggregation all degrade a dissolved peptide over time, and each is accelerated by heat and agitation — exactly the conditions of real-world transit.

Lyophilization, or freeze-drying, addresses this by removing water at low temperature under vacuum. The preparation is frozen, then the ice is sublimated away, leaving a dry, porous cake with very low residual moisture.

In this state the chemistry that degrades a solution largely stops. A well-prepared lyophilized peptide can be shipped and stored under refrigeration with its integrity protected, which is why the format is the presentation standard across the Sterling catalogue.

The visible signature of the process — a clean, intact cake at the base of the vial — is also a useful first check on arrival. The batch reference on the label then connects that vial to its release documentation.
